VVOB – education for development is an international non-profit organisation with over 40 years’ experience in strengthening the quality of education systems in Africa, Asia and South America in close partnership with ministries of education and their institutions. Position in the organisation
The General Director reports to the Board of Directors and General Assembly. You will be in the lead for the global organisation, managing direct and indirect reports. You coordinate the activities of the Global Leadership Team (including Global Programme Director, Global HR Director, Global Finance Director and Global Communication & Engagement Director) and the Extended Global Leadership Team (incl. GLT and Country Programme Managers).
Becoming a true Global organisation rooted in Belgium and the Global South:
VVOB recently decided to direct its focus completely to Africa. We will be setting up an African autonomous legal entity next to the Belgian legal entity. Both organisations will share a global office that will coordinate programme activities in the partner countries.
As General Director you will ensure that the new governance model will be implemented early 2027. You will work closely with the current Board of Directors to do this. Furthermore, you will play an important role in setting up a newly constituted Board of Directors with members from Belgium and Africa.
You will lead the shared global office. This will require frequent traveling between the Belgian and African entity.

Profiel
- You have a relevant master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- You have international work experience, particularly in and with the Global South.
- You have strong, proven management and leadership skills, with a track record of building effective teams and motivating diverse groups of professionals.
- You have a strong track record in leading large and diverse organisations.
- You have strong, proven expertise and experience in organisational development and change management.
- You have proven experience in networking at both national and international levels, preferably with institutional partners.
- English proficiency: CEFR level C1 / Dutch proficiency is a strong asset, alternatively, candidates are expected to develop good Dutch proficiency within the first year.
- You are authorised to work in Belgium.
