ISTQB® Foundation in Software Testing

  • door NCOI Learning
Leuven

Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC) that don’t include meticulous, structured software testing are prone to failure. That’s why testing is considered a major success factor in products under development. The ISTQB Certified Tester Scheme is the industry reference for software testing. For that reason, this course immerses you in the world of software testing, where you’ll obtain detailed insights into testing techniques and processes, as well as the terminology you need to pass the exam.

On completing the course, you will be able to:

  • understand established testing concepts, the fundamental test process, testing techniques, and be familiar with the principles behind test objectives
  • use a common language to efficiently and effectively communicate with other testers and project stakeholders
  • design and prioritise tests with tried-and-tested techniques
  • analyse functional and non-functional specifications (e.g., performance and usability) at all test levels for systems with a low to medium level of complexity.
  • execute tests according to agreed test plans, including analysis and reports on the results
  • write clear and understandable incident reports
  • effectively participate in reviews of small to medium-sized projects
  • recognise different types of testing tools and their uses, and assist in the related selection and implementation process

A. Fundamentals of testing

This stage hands you the basics of what testing means, the right attitude for testing, the seven basic test principles, and the fundamental test process. We also briefly touch on the tester’s code of ethics.

B. Testing throughout the software lifecycle

What is the role of testing in different software development lifecycles? How does it impact the maintenance phase? What’s the best way to match test activities to the corresponding development tasks? This section brings it all into focus.

C. Static testing

Find out how static testing can be applied to a project to ensure early bug detection. At this stage, we also discuss how to use reviews and tools for successful static testing.

D. Test design techniques

We provide you with a set of directly applicable white and black-box techniques that can be used in the various phases of a test project.

E. Test management

This introduces you to many of the practical ins and outs of test management, including how to organise a test team, plan tests, monitor and control test development, as well as tips on the execution phase and how to finalise testing at the end of a project. The approach proposed is based on risk-based testing, which determines the effort required for the project and product.

F. Tool support for testing

We present an overview of test tool categories and teach you how to use these tools effectively in the right situations. We also discuss how to introduce them into an organisation.

G. Extensive exercises and mock exam

Hands-on learning throughout the course – e.g., loads of exercises, discussions based on study material, and a mock exam – prepares you for the certification exam.

The exam is not included in the three-day course. A separate voucher (EUR 275 excl. VAT) can be purchased to take the exam.
