Bioinformatician Life Sciences (focus on software engineering)

Orionis Biosciences is a clinical-stage start-up company focusing on novel strategies to combat cancer and other diseases. As a technology innovation-driven company, Orionis integrates proprietary chemical biology screening platforms and protein engineering systems to develop medicines with mechanisms of action rationally targeted at key disease vulnerabilities. Founded in 2015, Orionis has facilities both in Ghent and in Boston (US). To strengthen our Ghent R&D team in Ghent, we are looking for a highly motivated bioinformatician (with focus on software engineering).
As a bioinformatician at Orionis, you take on a variety of tasks and responsibilities:
- You support the R&D team to organize and manage the company knowledge base through coding and developing internal platforms.
- You develop, implement, and validate data-analysis pipelines for a variety of projects under the supervision of our senior data science team.
- When needed, you provide support in the processing, managing and QC monitoring of data from high-througput screening projects, and giving feedback to the R&D team .
- You work together with a multidisciplinary team of Biologists, Chemists, Lab Technicians, Data Scientists and Software Engineers to analyze, visualize, and understand complex datasets.
Profiel
Your profile?
- You have a bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, or similar. Candidates with a degree in life sciences, computer science or similar, and professional experience in bioinformatics can also be eligible. A master's degree is a plus.
- You have proven experience in the following technical skills: advanced Python, Git, and Databases (specifically PostgreSQL or similar). Experience with Docker, AWS, Unit-testing, and the use of LLMs in coding, research, and knowledge bases is a big plus.
- You have a strong interest in coding/software engineering and can demonstrate this through work experience, personal projects, … You are also familiar with statistics and machine learning.
- You're fluent in English (both written and spoken) and have good communication skills.
- You are detail-oriented, well-organized, and can work independently.
- You have an analytical mind with good problem-solving skills.
- You're self-motivated and a committed team player with a great sense of responsibility and a flexible attitude.
