As an IP Manager for Life Sciences, you'll play a crucial role in identifying, protecting, and commercializing intellectual property developed at the University of Antwerp. You'll be responsible for implementing and further developing our organization's intellectual property strategy. You'll support innovation in the life sciences (such as biotech, pharmaceuticals, medtech, and diagnostics) by securing and strategically deploying patents, know-how, and other IP rights. You'll work closely with our researchers, valorisation managers, licensing managers, lawyers, and external patent attorneys.
The position includes the following tasks:
- Assess inventions and research results for patentability and commercial value, the latter in collaboration with the valorisation manager.
- Coordinating patent applications (national and international) in collaboration with external patent attorneys.
- Managing the existing IP portfolio (patents, trademarks, know-how, databases).
- Advising on IP aspects of public and private partnerships, licenses, and spin-offs.
- Supporting contracts such as NDAs, license and collaboration agreements.
- Monitoring IP developments and competition within the domain.
- Increasing IP awareness within the organization (training, guidelines).
- Developing and implementing the university's IP strategy.

- We offer a permanent contract for an indefinite period.
- You will receive a gross monthly salary (project coordinator) within pay band 8.1-10.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade (usually grade 8) depends on your relevant professional experience.
- You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- We offer flexible working hours.
- You will have 40 days of annual leave and collective leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
- You will do most of your work at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
