Job description

As a Power Electronics Design Engineer, you will be enrolled in the Power Electronic Systems R&D team in Leuven, Belgium and help drive the development and manufacturing of NI’s high-power (kW to MW) modules and systems.

Your responsibilities
  • Electrical and mechanical design of power (electronic) systems and project-specific hardware modules. This includes selecting components and performing calculations to support these designs.
  • Take the lead in the compliance related aspects of the design and translate the requirements from the applicable standards and directives (such as IEC61439, UL508A, EMC) into design decisions.
  • Assist with the transition of the design to the manufacturing team and provide the necessary technical documentation, drawings and build procedures.
  • Assist with the in-house construction of prototypes, warehouse and workshop management.


  • Master or bachelor in electrical/electromechanical/electronics engineering
  • Strong affinity with cross-disciplinary hardware design and the combination of electrical and mechanical aspects
  • Interested in product design and product development
  • Experience with electrical design for industrial environments and panel building is an asset
  • Experience with the low-voltage directive, the EMC directive and standards in the field of panel building, power systems, and power-electronic systems (incl. IEC61439) is an asset
  • Experience with UL standardization and procedures, specifically UL508A, is an asset
  • Good spatial visualization skills, experience with 3D CAD software is considered an asset
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Fluent in English
  • Flexible attitude, ability to work both in team as independently
