The Belgian Criminal Code has recently undergone a substantial reform, representing a crucial evolution in Belgium’s criminal legislation. This reform modernizes the framework, clarifies classifications, and introduces new sanction levels, aiming to align the law with contemporary social standards and values. This training provides a broad overview of the reformed Criminal Code, highlighting the main structural and procedural changes that will influence how criminal justice is administered. This general understanding will serve as a foundation for a subsequent session that will focus specifically on the implications for moral persons, such as companies and institutions.

The objectives of this training are to:

  • grasp the foundational principles;
  • understand the major shifts introduced in the new Belgian Criminal Code;
  • understand the framework's restructuring, setting the stage for a deeper dive into specific impacts on moral persons in the next session.
