This course takes a dive into the dark web. This 2/3-day foundation course provides an introduction to key concepts such as: darknet, Tor, blockchain, Bitcoin, dark markets and the emerging economics of “criminality-as-a-service.”
– ABIS.
You have probably seen the terms Tor and Blockchain passing by at some point. These technologies offer new opportunities such as specific FinTech innovations based on blockchain or bitcoins. Journalists, dissidents and citizens in countries with less democratic regimes, concerned about their privacy and human rights, can use Tor, for example, to prevent unwanted censorship.
On the other hand, these technologies also pose new (criminal) threats. Online dark web markets use these technologies and enable anonymous trade of illegal goods and services. It is not only the new criminal business models of dark markets that detract from our society, but the opportunities for trade in illegal weapons and forged documents can also facilitate terrorism. Based on these technological developments, an as-a-service economy of criminal services is developing, which is extremely threatening.
