Private Investigation Act (PIA) – Implications for Risk & Internal Audit Functions

  • by Febelfin Academy
696

Although Risk and Audit teams do not typically conduct investigations, their activities, - such as data verification, fraud signal analysis, or integrity checks - can unintentionally cross into investigative territory. This training will clarify what risk and audit teams can and cannot do under the PIA and how to identify potential exposure and design governance and escalation procedures that ensure compliance.

The objectives of this training are to:

  • interpret key provisions of the Private Investigation Act relevant to internal control and assurance work;
  • recognize when Risk or Audit activities may unintentionally cross into investigative work;
  • evaluate the PIA’s implications for audit scoping, fraud-related controls, and incident response;
  • design compliant workflows with clear escalation points to Compliance or Legal;
  • document procedures and testing activities in a manner that remains fully defensible under the WPO;
  • integrate PIA awareness into audit methodology, risk frameworks, and control documentation.
