(Senior) Financial Controller (m/f/x) - NL/FR/EN - Brussels
Who we are We, the Finance team within DAS, are organized in conscious lean way and consist currently of 5 people (6 if we count you in). Hence, the function we propose to you, well described below, is therefore very diverse offering everyone within the team a variety of different experiences. You get the opportunity to get expertise in the fields you are interested in (off course in dialogue with the team, decided as a team and in line with the objectives of DAS). Next to that, currently, the team is evolving from a kind of traditional team to a self-steering team. We are already well self-organized. We currently work two days in the office in Brussels. The three other days we work from home or one of the other 4 offices across Belgium. What this function is about in short You will become part of the team mentioned above, composed of two Accountants, one Financial Expert, one Financial Controller and one CFO (who also has HR, BTT and Procurement & Facility Management under his wings). Although we wish the organization is as flat as possible and as we are working towards a network of teams, formal hierarchy is still needed for the time being, so you report hierarchically and functionally to the CFO (member of the Executive Committee) of DAS. You co-create together with the Finance team how the company's vision and mission applies to Finance and establish with the team how it translates in strategic initiatives and actions. What you can offer
You can work from home and from any of our regional offices. However, a minimum presence of 2 days per week in our Brussels office is required.
- Master’s degree in Economics or Finance or equivalent
- You have at least a proven 3-5 year experience in Controlling, Finance or Financial Audit
- A first experience within the Insurance sector is a plus
- A sound knowledge of Excel (macro-skills are a plus) is the minimum
- Dutch speaking with very good understanding of French or perfectly bilingual speaking and a good knowledge of English
- You have excellent analytical skills and a high level of independence and critical spirit
- You demonstrate a capacity to convince others of your opinion: you can rely both on quantitative and qualitative arguments to demonstrate your opinion. You can present easily your opinion both by writing and orally in front of different types of audience…

Expectations In your role as Member of the Finance team,
- You meet the overall DAS expectations:
- You show willingness to undertake personal development in line with the personal development framework called “Chloé”
- You are able to handle multiple communication means such as Teams, Odoo, Outlook, our collaborative knowledge platform (DAS Inside)
- You understand the vision and mission of the company
- You understand or obtain the necessary knowledge of the financials of an insurance company
- You understand and master the overall strategy of the company
- You master the key financials of an insurance company (Premiums, Claims, Costs, Combined ratio…)
- You understand how Finance can contribute to a better DAS tomorrow
- And most importantly, you show ownership and responsibility (acting by taking into account all stakeholders)
- You fulfill the following core tasks within the team:
- Financial statement closing process and financial reporting (LGAAP and IFRS – specifically IFRS 17):
- Prepare or review financial reporting to Executive Management / Board of Directors / Shareholders / Supervisory authorities
- Prepare or review quarterly and yearly closing
- Follow-up on provisions
- Consolidate inputs from different departments (risk, accounting, HR…)
- Governance
- Maintain good relationships with key control functions (internal audit, Risk Management…) and point of contact for the external auditor
- Perform internal controls related to the closing and reporting processes
- Strategic projects :
- Active participation in ad hoc projects (sometimes even cross-departmental)
- Documentation and updating of internal procedures.
- Optimize operational Finance processes
- Forecast, Plan and Budget:
- Budget (<1-year) preparation and forecasting (1-year)/planning (3-years) activities
- Monitor financial KPI’s on a monthly basis + YTD budget to actuals follow-up
- Function as backup for other Finance department members
- Financial statement closing process and financial reporting (LGAAP and IFRS – specifically IFRS 17):
- You support the CFO in
- Performing its tasks regarding Controlling, Reporting, Tax and investments
- Performing its tasks related to the shareholder
- Performing its tasks related to Governance
- You participate in key strategic projects within the company as representative of the Finance function
- You will work closely together with the Finance colleagues as well as with our Risk department. You report directly to the CFO.
