The Materials Lab is a competence centre, which promotes research and innovation, and delivers high quality services in the field of materials, more in detail in the domains of Metals, Polymers & Composites, Coatings, Lubricants and Air, Gas & Water. Its service portfolio is aligned to clients’ needs and the progression of the state of the art and consists of qualification, troubleshooting, co-development, R&D, advice and training activities. Its competitive strength is based upon key knowledge, its application on Compressor Technique BA specific problems and a customer centric approach.
The Materials Lab is looking for a Materials Engineer Composites & Polymers. He/she has an in-depth and on-hands knowledge of composites and polymers, and their behaviour and applications. He/she will carry out mainly R&D projects, and apart from that deliver services to internal customers.
oTo develop basic knowledge on composite and polymeric materials (thermoplasts, thermosets, FRP,…), and on their processing and applications.
oTo follow up on the new developments on the market for composites and polymers (literature, conferences, suppliers, competitors,…), and to advice on new composite/polymer project and product opportunities.
oTo carry out research and innovation projects on composites and polymers (scouting, feasibility, budget, planning, communication with partners and suppliers, determining a test program, gathering results, steering project team members,..).
oTo perform material testing & investigations, and deliver chemical-technical support to product engineering, process, production, service and purchase teams. Identify root causes of product and process deviations, perform trouble shooting, qualify (new) products or applications,...
oTo report results, methodology, conclusions and recommendations and to clearly communicate about results, costs and planning to the management (R&D projects) or the internal customers (Shared Engineering Services).
oTo cooperate closely with other experts (internal colleagues and external centres of competence and suppliers). To build a network with research institutes, suppliers and universities.
oTo steer laboratory technicians, test engineers, interns, students,…
·Master of Material Science; Master of Materials Engineering; Master in Chemistry with material knowledge; or equal by experience.
·Experience in composites or polymers is an asset.
·Fluent in English and good command of Dutch (or willing to learn).
