BUS TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Functieomschrijving

In close cooperation with external partners, ISB operates an extensive bus transportation system of 30 buses that needs coordinating and planning on a daily basis. The Bus Transportation Manager is responsible for steering the daily operations of the Bus Office.  This position requires strong proven abilities in organization, communication, leadership and human relations.

 

Accountabilities 

  • Leads a small team of two Bus Transportation Coordinators and works closely with the Student Bus Safety Coordinator
     
  • Together with his small team, plans the bus routes at the beginning of the school year and ensures daily routes maintenance during the school year (road works, route adjustments for new students, etc.)
     
  • Liaises daily with bus companies, bus drivers, as well as parents and staff. Informs bus users timely about any change in bus routes, schedules and change of driver
     
  • Manages consequences of incidents, takes immediate action to ensure minimal loss and guarantee that every student is safe and secure at all times
     
  • Handles complaints and resolves issues satisfactorily in a swift and efficient manner
     
  • Is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining a bus tracking and student management system called “2School” (in cooperation with Ubitransport)
     
  • Maintains situational awareness regarding traffic, weather and other circumstances in the Greater Brussels area that could affect the safety, security and reliability of the bussing service.  Alerts the bus users in case of a bus service disruption
     
  • Is the point person regarding possible closure days (weather, incidents), advises School Director and liaises with bus companies from the early morning onwards of effective closure decision, if it takes place.  Sends the SMS messages to parents and staff
     
  • Maintains critical information about buses and drivers, such as good standing certificates (Model 2), phone numbers, bus registration, capacities and occupation of buses
     
  • Negotiates and orders bus transportation for field trips (except Athletics Department)
     
  • Prepares and submits the school’s 3-year PDE (“Plan de Déplacement des Entreprises”). Liaises with the Brussels-Region officials as required. (a designated ISB “Mobility Officer” is now mandatory for all organisations with more than 100 employees in the  Brussels Region
     
  • Reviews regularly and provides the content for the bus transportation page on the ISB website informing the community of travel possibilities to our campus
     
  • Consults and coordinates with the Finance and Operations Director on complex problems or non-routine issues
     
  • Continues professional growth, formulates realistic goals, seeks feedback from all stakeholders, applies new skills and is a team member as well as a team player. 

Profiel

Technical competencies:
  • Bachelor degree with prior experience of bus routing and planning
  • Good knowledge of the greater Brussels area
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French. Dutch is a plus
  • General knowledge of mobility matters (operational and regulatory) definitively a plus
