Opvoeder - Studiebegeleider/ Learning Mentor

Description de la fonction

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the AEN (Additional Education Needs) Department; we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Learning Mentor who will be available from September 2019.

Your Role:
Our students are fantastic but being a teenager can be tough!  They are under pressure from teachers at school and parents at home to study hard and do well in exams but are also coping with the biggest period of physical and emotional change in their life.  All this while trying to find their place in their peer group in a mobile community with many new students.

Your role is to support individuals, or small groups of Secondary aged students, typically in the 14-18 age range. Some in-class support may be required but most support will be organised outside the classroom with a focus on self-esteem, motivation, revision and study skills. It is expected that you would support students with their learning; in particular, with their preparation for examinations and applications to university, it would be an advantage to have experience of US applications. The successful candidate will work closely with the Faculty Leader of Student Support, Secondary teachers and Heads of Year to support students in their learning across the curriculum in a range of subjects. He/she will demonstrate professional and personal qualities, which will enable him, or her, to make a significant contribution to the continued development of the AEN Department and to the school in a wider context.

We are looking for an outstanding communicator with young adults who can listen, help them plan their time, see a way through the demands of school life and raise their aspirations.

Your Profile:
  • have experience of working with students in an educational setting;
  • be organised, adaptable, self-motivated, creative and have a sense of humour;
  • be an excellent team player and communicator, building trust with students, parents and teachers;
  • be a good role model and be ambitious for students’ learning;
  • be independent, flexible, patient, proactive and personable
  • As BSB is a busy extracurricular school, it would be an advantage if the successful candidate could offer a particular activity as part of this programme, as well as a willingness to go on school trips (day trips and residential)
The Person:
  • Committed to achieving the best at all times for BSB students
  • Belief that in learning and in life more is achieved together than alone
  • Open mindedness and welcoming of otherness
  • Committed to the safety and wellbeing of BSB students.

  • Permanent, full-time contract with full obligation to attend all staff meetings and PL workshops
  • Excellent Professional Learning (PL) opportunities
  • Great opportunity for rewarding work with our extraordinary students
  • Attractive salary - BSB Learning & Teaching scale – Band 2 representing a minimum of € 30.170 and maximum € 47.163 gross per year, depending on the years of relevant experience) and extra-legal benefits including hospitalisation insurance, extra pension payments, luncheon vouchers, free use of the BSB sport facilities
Application process:

The deadline for applications is Monday 25 March at 16:00 (CET).
Please note that only applications sent in using the application form on the BSB website will be considered. No other submissions will be accepted.

Interviews will be held at the school the beginning of April.

“The British School of Brussels is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.” (with reference to the most recent KCSIE)
