Job description

•Ensure Business Groups are timely and correctly informed on the latest requirements and upcoming changes of regulations addressing product safety (LVD, GPSD) as well as future product compliance trends in European Region.

 

•Identify and secure legal tracking tools (databases, newspapers, etc.) for the above-mentioned legislation.The “region” covers geographical Europe, Russia, former Soviet Union countries, Turkey and Israel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Product Compliance Engineer is responsible for legal tracking, interpretation and, in cooperation with HQ, concluding on necessary actions with regards to the new and updated legislation affecting Sony products. She/ He acts as a representative of Sony at different trade association, involved into standardization activities and provides professional support on expert subject to internal stakeholders to allow a rapid reaction on customer requests and arising obstacles incl. market surveillance activities.
 
Legal Tracking:
•Identify and contract appropriate tracking tools to support legal tracking
•Identify and follow-up on upcoming and updated European legislation addressing Product Safety and market needs affecting products by utilizing tracking tools and established network
•Analyse regulatory requirements legally & technically
•Inform HQ timely on needs to adapt product design in time to comply with legislation
•Draft & define, in cooperation with HQ, guidelines and instructions with appropriate conformity actions for Business Groups to secure compliant products are placed on the market
 
Lobbying & Standardization:
•Represent Sony in trade associations (e.g. Digital Europe) and steer trade association output to reflect company’s interests
•Monitor and analyse harmonized standards:
•Monitor EU OJ publications to identify any newly listed standards
•Prepare analysis of the standards changes and inform BGs so that they can prepare to comply with sufficient lead-time
•Give input and work together with Product Compliance Analyst (handling DoCs) to properly prepare and launch DoC updates activities
•Represent Sony in standardization bodies (national, European (ETSI, CENELEC…), or international to secure Sony’s input is raised and reflected
 
Internal Consultancy
•Advise Business Groups, in-country contacts, local sales/marketing in compliance related matters
•Act/report proactively when recognizing significant Business risks for Product compliance
•Assist in-country contacts for local lobbying activities with governmental bodies, industry associations and standardisation bodies
•Provide Sony expertise towards Market Surveillance in case of non-compliance or any enquiry in consultation with Quality Center, Business Groups and Legal Affairs
 
Product and Environmental Compliance support for Professional Products Business:
•Sustain Product Compliance Management System;
•Discuss, Document and Implement internal processes and procedures to ensure product compliance of business operations
•Maintain internal processes, procedures and support materials up-to-date and available to the Business Group members
 
Other:
•Maintain close working relationship with Business Groups, Quality & Environment Centre Legal Affairs Europe and European Sales Network
•Monitor competitors activities and practices to understand the market and to assess the risk (if Sony applies a deviating approach)


 

Profile

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
•Educational: Master in electronics or engineering
•Extensive knowledge on technical features of electronic products
•Familiarity with Sony products
•Advanced communication and networking skills
•Ability to represent the company at Regulatory Affairs and drive discussions in related fields with external stakeholders such as standardization committees, trade associations, authorities, NGOs and customers
•Interest in regulatory compliance matters
•Knowledge of or particular interest for the following legislation:
•New legislative framework (NLF), CE marking
•Safety (the EU Low Voltage Directive (LVD), General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) and similar)
•Ability to analyse, interpret regulatory requirements and conclude necessary actions
•Ideally experience in Product Compliance matters
•Must be highly self-motivated and able to work remotely and unsupervised when needed
•Comfortable to work as a team player in multicultural environment
•Ideally knowledge of Sony organisation
•Fluent in English (and ideally also in at least one other European language)
