Job description

Our client is a technology based company specialized in the development of innovative polymers and macromolecules. They develop innovative materials for applications in various fields with a focus on therapeutics, drug formulation, nanomedicines and biomaterials.

  • Leads R&D projects, both internal as well as joint research projects with biotech companies.
  • With the support of laboratory technicians, leads the synthesis and purification of a range of polymers utilizing techniques such as filtrations, distillations, flash chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography, etc.
  • Develops new chemistries optimizing existing procedures and developing new ones.
  • Assists in the technology transfer process to CMO to produce cGMP materials.
  • Characterizes the obtained materials using a variety of techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, Size Exclusion Chromatography (GPC/SEC), HPLC, IR, UV-VIS spectroscopy, etc.
  • Out of the lab, you will register the information related to experiments and synthesized materials electronically and are responsible for the traceability of the performed operational work through recording of all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and accountability.
  • Drafts patent applications.
  • Communicates and coordinates efficiently with your colleagues in a global cross-functional team. 


  • Master or PhD degree in chemistry, with a strong polymer chemistry background.
  • Strong safety mindset.
  • Skilled in polymer synthesis and characterization. Skilled in the use of Schlenk techniques, air-free techniques, controlled polymerizations. 
  • Understands the scientific principles related to the operation of modern laboratory, analytical, and/or processing equipment. 
  • Experience with poly(2-oxazoline)s and polyalkyleneimines is an asset.
  • Familiarity with nucleic acid formulation will be valued.
  • Familiarity with size exclusion chromatography techniques, both analytical as well as preparative, is an asset.
  • Excellent command of English, oral and written. Ability to draft reports. 
  • Excel, PowerPoint and Word proficiency is a must.
  • Collaborative and communicative. Can work independently, precisely and time-consciously.
  • Thinker and doer. Hands-on.
  • Previous experience in an industrial setting is an asset, particularly in the biotech or biomedical sector. 
  • Experience in patent drafting is an asset.
