Job description

  • You will drive R&D activities for various engineering projects to achieve project goals and objectives through the implementation of new and improved packaging designs and processes
  • Therefore, you will plan and execute sterile barrier packaging design verification activities and support process validation activities
  • Besides performing gap assessments and evaluating risks with introducing new packaging, you will develop actionable plans to mitigate those risks
  • You will create and optimize packaging diagrams, site level procedures, conduct design reviews and author reports in compliance with West’s Product Development Process
  • To reduce waste and improve efficiency, you will identify opportunities for continuous improvement in West’s commercial packaging and implement plans
  • You will act as the technical point of contact for strategic suppliers of packaging material
  • Commonly with the product development team and cross-functional workstreams, you will maintain planned project milestones


  • You have successfully completed at least a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or in another technical or scientific area
  • With a minimum of 5 years of professional experience you have a proven track record of projects led within international, cross-functional teams
  • You have a proven understanding of fundamental engineering principles and a passion for packaging design, materials, manufacturing processes, and test methodologies
  • You are keen to learn and to become acquainted with new technologies and processes
  • You bring knowledge in pharmaceutical handling and filling, and familiarity with pharmaceutical standards (cGMP) is strongly desired
  • With your effective problem-solving ability and strong interpersonal skills, you will manage complex projects quickly
  • Knowledge about irradiation sterilization would be a plus
  • As you work with international teams, you have excellent English knowledge both written and spoken. German language knowledge is advantageous
  • Travelling internationally up to 15% – mostly within Europe – to suppliers is no issue for you
