Environmental Manager Europe F/M

Within supply chain, environment and sustainability is a priority in our agenda to build a sustainable future in the hygiene industry.  This area part of our Global RESH organization in supply chain (Risk, Environment, Safety and Health) working towards a company’s harmonization in this area and achieve our sustainable targets.

The Environmental Manager Europe is responsible for providing expert advice to all manufacturing sites, to fulfil all legal obligations, Public affairs, Essity policies in all environment related issues in our supply chain (Tissue and Personal care) in Europe. S/he sets guidelines for the European leadership team to achieve the environmental targets in fully alignment with Essity’s sustainability ambition and provide expertise to all manufacturing sites on environmental projects, processes, and sustainability Program.

This position will report to our Global Environmental Director and will support the site’s OGSM set by the region and supports the compliance within the EU framework and Essity internal environmental and sustainability standards and legislation. This includes site’s circular economy initiatives, water stewardship, REACH, Certifications (ISO, Ecolabel, CoC), among others. 

The position can be based in Diegem in Belgium. Other locations in Germany (Ismaning) or France (Paris) Essity offices can be considered.

What You Will Do

  • Be a Role Model for RESH (Risk, Environment, Safety, and health)

  • Execute the environmental strategy in Europe and contributes to implement Essity's sustainability ambition within the region

  • Support to resolve non-conformities related to environment and continuously improve effectiveness of the guidelines for the Sites (28 tissue sites, 6 Personal care sites)

  • Monitor the EU legislation in the environmental areas and communicate this to the European leadership teams

  • Train the European Organization and support capability development on environment and sustainability

  • Provide support to Technology team in the implementation of the Essity Sustainability Program in the Sites

  • Be part of the public affairs team/agenda and actively participate in the committees and events

  • Coordinate the site environmental managers to assure alignment across Europe and initiatives

  • Influence the performance Management and team development within the environmental network. In Europe

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or similar field

  • Certified Environmental Professional CHMM and CESSWI preferred

  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience as environment professional working within European framework

  • Experience with remote organizational leadership, European culture, influence, and environmental legislative frameworks

  • Fluent in English (other languages would be an advantage) combined with strong verbal and written communications

  • High level of professional and personal integrity, ethics, and role model

  • Comfort to advice all levels of the organization

  • Ability to deal with complex-matrix organizations

  • Availability to travel with frequency
