Our client, Thalys International provides commercial passenger rail transport services in Europe and is based in Brussels.
Thalys is the only high-speed European network that connects 4 countries: France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
Today, Thalys International has around 140 employees who are strongly involved in maintaining and developing the Thalys service and brand name, which enjoy a strong reputation.
In order to reinforce its team, our client is currently looking for a legal counsel.
Legal Counsel
Functieomschrijving
You will report to the Head of Legal.
You will provide a highly commercial, proactive and technically excellent legal support to the business and the management.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be to:
• provide assistance to the business on general commercial law matters;
• prepare and review commercial agreements, templates of contracts, general terms and conditions and to manage all existing contracts;
• contribute to business development by supporting the commercial and legal aspects in contract negotiations;
• provide legal advice in competition law, more specifically all EU legislation concerning the liberalisation of the railways;
• manage and follow-up of corporate housekeeping: preparing board meetings and corporate publications;
• deal with issues of public procurement law;
• manage the trademarks and domain names portfolio on a daily basis;
• provide legal risk management support to different business projects;
• assess the legal aspects of commercial, communication and production tools;
• work in close contact with external lawyers and administrative and judicial authorities (the national competition authorities and the European Commission);
• follow up and ensure compliance with the legislation concerning the liberalisation of the railways, commercial practices and the protection of personal data;
• follow up on litigation and assist in representing the business in legal disputes;
• manage the budget of the legal department;
• represent the company at all relevant legal forums of the railways associations at European and national level.
Profiel
You have obtained a Belgian Master in law.
You have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience as a lawyer, preferably in an international law firm, possibly combined with experience as an inhouse legal counsel.
You have a solid experience in commercial law and contract law. You have already acquired experience in competition law and/or you have affinity with general matters of EU law.
You have an excellent knowledge of Dutch, French and English, both written and orally.
The knowledge of German would be considered as an asset.
You have strong communication skills.
You are punctual, creative and dynamic. You are able to work autonomously and you have excellent interpersonal skills and are able to gain respect and confidence.
You adopt a pragmatic business approach and understand the impact of legal issues on the business. You are able to take into account commercial, financial and strategic issues.
You are flexible and capable of working efficiently in a fast changing environment.
