Junior Legal Counsel

You will join the legal department of Ageas’ top holding company, Ageas SA/NV. Ageas SA/NV has approximately 100 employees (40 in Brussels and 60 in Utrecht). The legal department currently consists of 5 specialised lawyers headed by the General Counsel and is based in the Brussels head office of the company. Your main tasks and responsibilities will relate to the regulatory framework, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation proceedings . More in particular, you will be responsible for: - providing legal support in a wide variety of legal matters related to Ageas’ local and international operations and activities; - following up on dispute resolution and litigation proceedings; - providing legal assistance in the group’s corporate, finance and merger and acquisition transactions; - dealing with fundamental regulatory and compliance issues so allowing the business to operate in line with all applicable laws and regulations; - with the support or under the supervision of your senior team colleagues, working in daily close contact with the various entities of the group and collaborating intensively with the group’s outside legal counsels. You may be called for short business trips abroad.
Profiel
You have obtained a Belgian Master in law. As a student, you obtained solid academic results, preferably with an additional specialization in corporate and/or financial law. You have 3 to 5 years experience as a lawyer in an internationally oriented law firm (preferably corporate of finance department) or as in-house counsel with a listed company or a major player in the financial services or insurance sector. You are a native Dutch or French speaker with a good command of the other language. You have an excellent command of English, both orally and in writing. You like to work in a team and enjoy sharing knowledge, but you are able to work independently and take on responsibilities at the same time. You are a good communicator with strong analytical and synthetical legal skills. You are dynamic and creative, proactive, solution driven and pragmatic, capable of translating relevant legal principles into efficient enterprise results.
